Truck driving bans Europe 2026: calendar for 9 countries
In 2026 trucks over 7.5 t may not drive in Germany on Sundays and nine public holidays from 00:00 to 22:00, in Austria from 15:00 on Saturday until 22:00 on Sunday or a holiday, and in France from 22:00 on Saturday or a holiday eve until 22:00 the next day. Italy bans them on the dates of its 2026 decree, Poland only vehicles over 12 t on 12 holidays and summer-holiday weekends, and Switzerland every goods vehicle over 3.5 t on Sundays and every night from 22:00 to 05:00. The calendar below draws each window for nine countries hour by hour and checks your own drive against it. In Logistivo, the driver app keeps sending the truck's position to the load while it waits out a ban, and every company on the load sees the same time-stamped status history.

Can the truck drive? Nine countries, hour by hour — Enter a start, an end and a vehicle: the calendar shows every national truck-ban window in nine European countries and whether your drive runs into one.
The calendar applies the bans exactly as each country's legal text sets them: Germany (StVO §30, FerReiseV), Austria (StVO §42 and the 2026 ordinances), France (arrêtés of 16 April 2021 and 26 December 2025), Italy (DM 325/2025), Poland (Dz.U. 2023 poz. 2423), Switzerland (SVG art. 2, VRV art. 91), Czechia (Act 361/2000, §43), Slovakia (Act 8/2009, §39) and Spain (DGT resolution of 14 January 2026). All times are local time (CET/CEST).
Start of the drive — Date and local time the truck is on the road (January 2026 to December 2027).
End of the drive — Up to 14 days after the start.
Vehicle — Permitted maximum weight of the vehicle or combination; the thresholds differ by country.
Italy: type of journey — Arriving from abroad starts the Italian ban 4 hours later; leaving for abroad ends it 2 hours earlier, with documents proving origin or destination (DM 325/2025, art. 3).
Austria: certified low-noise truck (exempt from the 22:00–05:00 night ban) — StVO §42(6)(c): a truck carrying the low-noise confirmation under §8b(4) KDV 1967 may drive at night.
Truck or combination over 12 t — Covered by every ban in the calendar.
Over 7.5 t, up to 12 t — Covered everywhere except Poland, whose bans start above 12 t.
3.5–7.5 t truck towing a trailer — Covered in Germany (any trailer behind a truck), Austria (weekend ban: truck or trailer over 3.5 t), Switzerland, Czechia and Slovakia. In France, Italy and Spain it depends on whether the combination's permitted weight exceeds 7.5 t, in Poland 12 t; for Austria's night ban and 2026 road calendars on whether truck and trailer together exceed 7.5 t.
3.5–7.5 t truck without a trailer — Covered only by the Swiss Sunday and night ban (heavy motor vehicles over 3,500 kg).

What the check assumes
The vehicle carries goods commercially. The German ban is worded for commercial carriage, including the related empty runs.
No exemption applies. Perishable goods, combined-transport legs, livestock and the other exempt transports are listed in each country card, not applied.
Germany: only the nationwide holidays are applied as bans; Corpus Christi, 31 October and 1 November are shown as "only in some German states".
Holiday dates for Austria, France, Czechia and Spain come from each country's national holiday calendar; for Germany, Poland, Switzerland and Slovakia from the list in the ban rule itself.
Road-specific bans (German summer Saturdays, Austria's 2026 calendars, France's winter Saturdays and Île-de-France sections, Spain's DGT sections) are shown separately: whether they bind you depends on your route and direction.
The Italian journey type shifts only the Italian window; other cross-border allowances (for example Poland's for Polish vehicles returning from abroad) are described in the cards.
What the calendar leaves out
Countries outside the calendar are not ban-free — see the coverage box.
Italy's decree, Spain's DGT resolution, France's summer and winter Saturdays and Austria's road calendars are published per year. For 2027 they are not yet published, and the calendar says so instead of repeating the 2026 dates.
Regional and local restrictions — Swiss cantons that do not observe a holiday, prefects' orders, municipal bans, tunnels and passes — are not included.

Do the bans apply to empty trucks and to vehicles under 7.5 t?
Empty trucks: generally yes. Vehicles under 7.5 t: only in Switzerland, where the limit is 3.5 t — and in Germany a trailer behind any truck is enough.
Germany's §30 StVO expressly covers empty runs linked to commercial carriage. France, Italy, Poland and the Czech Republic exempt an empty run only when it belongs to an exempt transport, such as a perishable-goods delivery — so an ordinary empty truck is covered.
The weight threshold is 7.5 t in Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Czechia, Slovakia and Spain, 12 t in Poland and 3.5 t in Switzerland. Combinations count by their total permitted weight in France, Poland and Spain. Austria also bans a truck with a trailer when either unit exceeds 3.5 t, and Czechia and Slovakia ban trucks over 3.5 t that tow a trailer.

In July and August seven of the nine countries add Saturday bans: France on five Saturdays 07:00–19:00, Italy every Saturday from 4 July to 29 August, Czechia 07:00–13:00, Slovakia 09:00–19:00, Poland on school-holiday weekends, and Germany and Spain on listed roads; Austria's Saturday 15:00 ban runs all year, with extra road calendars in summer.
Germany: every Saturday 1 July – 31 August, 07:00–20:00, on the motorway sections listed in the Ferienreiseverordnung.
France: 11, 18 and 25 July, 1 and 8 August 2026, 07:00–19:00 on every road of mainland France.

Do UK hauliers have to follow these bans?
Yes. The bans apply to every truck on that country's roads, whatever its registration; only the allowances differ.
Italy starts its ban 4 hours later for vehicles arriving from abroad with documents, and ends it 2 hours earlier for vehicles leaving for abroad. Poland exempts only vehicles registered in Poland that are returning from abroad, and vehicles that entered before the ban began, up to 50 km from the border. France lets border prefects lift a ban where a neighbouring country's rules differ.

Are trucks allowed to drive on Sundays in Germany?
Not trucks over 7.5 t, and not any truck towing a trailer, when they carry goods commercially: the ban runs from 00:00 to 22:00 on Sundays and nine nationwide public holidays, empty runs included. From 22:00 they may drive again. Perishables, short combined-transport legs and a few other transports are exempt.
What time does the lorry ban end in France on Sunday?
At 22:00. It starts at 22:00 on Saturday — or on the eve of a public holiday — and applies to vehicles and combinations over 7.5 t on every road. On the five summer Saturdays of 2026 the Saturday rule is replaced by 07:00–19:00, and driving is allowed again from 19:00 to 24:00.
Is there a truck ban in Austria on Saturday?
Yes, from 15:00 to 24:00, continuing on Sunday until 22:00, for trucks over 7.5 t and for trucks with a trailer when either unit exceeds 3.5 t. On top of that, trucks over 7.5 t may not drive at night from 22:00 to 05:00 unless they carry a low-noise certificate.

Does Poland ban trucks under 12 t on holidays?
No. The Polish regulation covers only vehicles and combinations over 12 t permissible total weight: 08:00–22:00 on 12 public holidays, 18:00–22:00 on the eve of nine of them and on the weekends of the school summer holidays.
When is Italy's 2027 truck ban calendar published?
Italy sets its calendar each year by decree of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport; the 2026 decree (no. 325) was signed on 12 December 2025. Until the 2027 decree is published, this calendar shows no Italian windows for 2027 and says so.
